I think you are a wonderful writer. I was
very touched by the emotion you felt and the
detail you shared with everyone. I, too, am
expecting my first child. A son, also. I
cannot wait to feel the joy and excitement of
delivering my baby, as you and others have
felt. Congratulations on becoming a father
and good luck to you!
Diana    06/22/1999

Thanks much! I think everyone should write
about their experiences during this hugely
emotional and profound time. Memories fade,
babies grow fast (as we're already
discovering!). A journal or diary will
become a keepsake, along with those precious
newborn photos.
Joseph    06/24/1999

I love your story ! Thanks for sharing it
with us...Good luck !
Jackie    07/02/1999

I can relate. We too had a c section after 18 hours of labor
because our baby
was "sunny side up". It was a let down to not be
able to have the baby
naturally, but our disappointment vanished the minute we saw
our little girl.

i want to see a video of a babys birth can
you tell me where to find it
cheiko    07/25/1999

I am printing this right now to show my
husband. I am being induced tomorrow morning
for hopefully natural labor and I know that
he will appreciate this!
jaimeleeg@msn.com    07/29/1999

Even after twenty years after delivering the
last of my six children, I felt a lump in my
throat and was caught up in the emotion and
joy of this birth. Thanks for sharing and
congratulations to both of you!
Lydia    08/11/1999

What a beautiful birth story! Thank you for
sharing it with me. I'm a mom 35 weeks
pregnant and I'm getting "bummed" with the
pains and discomfort. Your story reminds me
of the gold at the end of the rainbow. I
printed this story out for my husband to read
tonight.
Rosa Montes Goldberg    09/29/1999

Great story....
xochiltm@hotmail.com    10/05/1999

I think that it is the most wonderful thing
to see a father become so close with his wife
at this very important time in her life , you
have truely touched my heart .God Bless you
and your wife on your new baby.
amy senft    10/05/1999

My husband hasn't seen this yet, but it will
be his favorite experience on the babycenter!
Thank you for sharing!
tlmcwc@aol.com    10/05/1999

I just read your birth story. It was beautiful. My last
child was born 6 and half
years ago by c-section. He is wonderful and we also called
him a buddah
baby because he was so big. 9lbs.9oz. and 22". Enjoy
him, before you know
it he will be in first grade!
Bridget    10/05/1999

This totally blessed me JD, after reading I
was so overwhelmed! You are going to make a
great dad indeed! I am just at 12 weeks now
and I feel blessed already, may God bless
you, Mary and baby Robert and bring you
endless years of joy!
lili in London    10/12/1999

I had a C-section after 39 hours of labor (4
years ago). I remember after the procedure I
was VERY shaky and weak. Thanks for your
point of view, sounded alot like what my
husband had to say after the procedure. I'm
20 weeks along with my second, and have no
strong feelings one way or another about
delivery, only that I won't do 39 hours
before C again!
Laurel    10/12/1999

I think that this story was very touching to see a father
care that much for his
unborn child. Unfortunatlly my boyfriend was not there for
me when I
delieverd his son to a emergency C-Section.
LaCresha Adams    10/18/1999

Having a child is the most happiest day of
your life, yet, it is the most painful too. I
was in labor for 14 hours and it hurt alot.
The best thing to have to make you feel a
little better is someone right next to you
that you care about. Everything seems alot
easier.
LaCresha Adams    10/18/1999

I found this very helpful. I was always
thinking about things just going right, but
this has showed me that things could change
in a matter of mins. Thank you
Sarah    11/03/1999

Wow, what an awesome story! It's really
wonderful to hear it from the Dad's point of
view. I just have one question, did you
really eat that breakfast in front of your
wife? I am guessing that they wouldn't let
her eat at that point! :-)

Thank you for sharing such a beautiful story.

Jen in Pittsburgh    11/08/1999

I am 4.5 months pregnant with my second
child. My ultrasound is scheduled for this
afternoon. Reading this piece brought back
the joy of our son's birth 14 months ago and
a wave of emotion (joy) that we have another
child on the way and get to experience this
miracle a second time in a few months. God
is good.
susan    11/09/1999

This was the most beautiful story of a
childbirth. I have never been so attached to
one story before. Your words kept me wanting
more. I am about to have my first child also
(Due February 14, 2000). My boyfriend acts
the same way you act. He is very interested
in everything I do, he also wants to be
involved in the delivery room, I have no
problem with that! You are such a great
writer! (I knew that you were a professional
from the first sentence of your story. When
you have another beautiful child, will you
please write another story?

My wife Kelley is due in 13 days and we are
both anxious to get this delivery under way.
Your story really helped me to put things in
perspective and concentrate on what is
important in the next few days. Not that I
haven't already. You have written a beautiful
story and I hope to do the same kind of thing
with our own little twist. Hope mother and
baby are doing well... and dad too.
jim and kelley    12/29/1999

I think that giving birth is never forgoten on
both the mother's and father's side but I also
know that sometimes father's don't want to
assist in the delivery room and I strongly
suggest that thei do. It is so butiful. Mother
often forget stuff that happened cause of the
drugs and stuff but the fater can always be
their to tell theim how butiful it was.
01/27/2000

I am a 19 years old mother of a wonderfull 7
months old daugter and proud of it. The father
was mentaly young and all the way throw the
pregnancy he was distant and sometime he would
tell me that he diden't want to be a part of
our lives(baby and I). Of course he diden't
want to assist at the birth but he did. I
think that it made him think and mature cause
now we are engaged to be maried in one year.
So girls if you are stuk with an immature man
and you love him please don't give up cause
good people do change.

please show pictures of the actual delivery

You did a wonderful job portraying what
really happens in the delivery room. I am 17
weeks with my first child, and recently
witnessed my best friend giving birth. It is
amazing. Congratulations to you and Mary.
And congratulations to Robert for having a
great set of parents.
Nicole    02/19/2000

i really enjoy reading on this topic, and i am glad to hear
that you as the
father is really happy to be a dad.
www.sherr@regina.com    03/10/2000

loved it, I'm 6 months pregnant and we're
reading everything under the sun as I had
heart surgery and this will be our first baby.
I'm going to have Jim my hubby read this one
too the real video clips were awesome -- what
an excellent story & site you keep up!
We really appreciate babycenter.com :)
Mary & Jim Goodman    03/23/2000

Wow, I am so thankful to have a dad's eye
view. My labor with my daughter was 46 hours
and very non eventful (total dialation 1 cm).
We wound up having a csection, but I couldn't
get my husband to share his feelings about
it. From reading this story, I can almost se
the facial expressions and feeling, and they
are such a close match to those I saw on my
husbands face. Thank you,
Denika    03/25/2000

What a greatly descriptive story! I had tears
coming out of my eyes.
Selma    04/19/2000

Your baby is very cute the best of luck!
Georgia    05/18/2000

Congratulations on the birth of your baby. I
am 37weeks pregnant and will be having a C-
Section. I would like to thank you for your
story...my partner got choked up whilst I
read to him your story. It was beautiful
just like your son. Thankyou for sharing.
al13167@yahoo.com    06/07/2000

I am an expectant father (first time).
Although the estimated delivery date is 3
months and 1 day away, I still feel my
nerves, butterflies, and rampant emotions
every day. Especially when I read
beautifully written birth stories like this
one. Fatherhood has already changed me, even
though our son is still in my beautiful
wife's tummy. Everything is different
already, and life's priorities have changed.
We are creating a FAMILY. A loving family.
My hope is that the feelings that I have now
will carry through the rest of my child's
life. Thank you for a wonderful story...I've
been reading the weekly installments of your
diary as well - excellent!!
Bob Niendorf    06/12/2000

If someone wonders what it is like
to look into the eyes of God I
could say you can compare this
sensation to the look into the eyes
of a newborn baby. I experienced
this joy when I saw the eyes of my
first granddaughter as she was
pulled from her mother's womb and
it will always be a spiritual time
for me. I feel honored to have
been there.
Gigi    08/23/2000

a baby born to a 1st time dad ( not
mom's first) with a rare disease-
ex. classic galactosemia. only
child with disease as other 2 son's
have different dad.
jill    08/23/2000

Its a shame after all that good labor
experience, you wife staying at home til she
was 6 centimeters and all, she chose to have
an epidural and totally slow down the chance
to really push hard and deliever
naturally.... Women and their husbands alike
should look into how many c-section are
caused by epidurals... next time go natural,
its the best for you and baby!!!!!
Autumn    08/23/2000

This was truly the best description
of a c-section birth. I had a c-
section in 1996, and the experience
is unforgetable, let alone
describable. Good Luck
Dana    08/23/2000

I enjoyed reading about your
experience and I think it will help
me during mine when the time comes
thank you!
Traci    09/04/2000

Your son will certainly appreciate
reading about this detailed accout
of his birth and how you felt
during the whole episode.
Wonderful job and I'm pleased that
all of you are doing well. Best
wishes for a wonderful life.
Tara    09/15/2000

I think this is a great story!! You
did good!So detailed and precise
about everything.
Thank you!
Sandy Matthews    09/16/2000

This is an absolutely terrible
story. Excatly the reason that I
don't plan on drugs, and at 8cm.
come on! then of course you have
to have more drugs and eventually
this woman had a C-section. Just
imangine the hell you put your baby
through. so that you could have a
couple of hours of "comfort".
09/25/2000

It may be a little long but I think
you'll get a lot out of it - i did
and it's written by a dad.
PJ    10/16/2000

This is a very interesting story as
well as a joyful one.
It is good for teaching others what
to expect in labor.
