May be different with boy babies, but our Dr. advised us,
with 2 girls NOT to use Desitin,
Just to use A & D. from what I recall, he said that if
there is any type of yeast Desitin
will only spread the rash and make it much worse..also A
& D will speed up the healing
process, much more then Desitin 03/06/2000

Bobby is such an adorable baby. And you and
Mary sound like such loving parents. It is
nice to read your story each week.
Since Bobby likes to bounce, I would like to
suggest the Graco Baby Jumper. It hangs
safely in a doorway, and my six month old son
loves his. He bounces and bounces and laughs
out loud. It is great exercise and fun to do.
Enjoy this time with your son. I am finding
it truly does go way too fast! Anne 03/07/2000

Me grandson Alex is also 23 weeks old and has
discovered jumping. We found a device called
a Johnny Jumper and attached it to a stud in
the living room. He jumps to his hearts
content and can turn in all direction, look
at people, tv, whatever catches his fancy.
Kind of like a baby swing seat attched to a
bungy cord. Everyone should have one. sherry 03/07/2000

I too have noticed that my 4 month old
daughter gets "spazzy" when around crowds and
at other people's houses. Babies like their
own little world and when it gets disrupted,
they let everyone know!! I'm learning to
relax more about it and put Boo Boo (as in
bear) in God's hands. That's all we as
parents can do! Good luck, and thank you for
sharing your story. It helps me realize
we're not alone in this new little journey! Marylee 03/07/2000

my 6 month old is not to crazy about lots of
people either.i think its just a baby thing.i
went to a baby shower and cried if people
looked at him..so i went outside with my
other two childern and he enjoyed watching
the other kids play..but yet if we go out to
eat he is fine...as for destin..i dont like
that stuff i have a girl and two boys and
none of of them can use it....it makes them
break out even worse..i use balmex it works
great and is fast acting...so be careful with
the destin...your son is adorable and they
seem to grow so fast...he has two wonderful
parents keep up the good work..i look forward
to next week... ophelia 03/08/2000

Once our 17mos daughter started teething her
molars, rash patrol started. On the advice
of a friend's doctor, we started using the
blow dryer with each diaper change. We keep
it plugged in at the changing station and
blow her fanny until it's dry. Works like a
wonder!! And for the nighttime diaper we put
on Aquaphor thick (like frosting on a cake).
No more diaper rash problems!! Our doctor
said to stay away from desitin and other
thick white creams because you rub twice as
rough to get them off at diaper changes,
creating more of a problem. Good luck, seems
like diaper rash is an ongoing problem. KWest 03/08/2000

I love reading about Bobby's adventures!
My daughter will be 5-months old this weekend and
I look forward to each new milestone (last night she
was finally able to stick her toes in her mouth, and
they have been a source of entertainment all day). I
have recently noticed what I think is "stranger
anxiety"
(although the doctor says "not yet"). My husband's
parents visited us last month and my daughter, after not
having seen Grandpa and Grandma for several weeks,
started crying hysterically. They cut their visit short, and
she finally calmed down after they were out of the
driveway. I later apologized, but was reminded that I
have no more control over my daughter's behavior at this
point than she does! However, last week we went on a
vacation with them, and she was just fine.
I enjoy reading about all the fun to come and relating so
well to your weekly updates. Becky 03/08/2000

One quick diaper rash tip. My son just turned
12 months last week and he really hasn't had
too many diaper rashes but when he does they
are really bad. Last March when he was a
couple of months old, he was on amoxicylin and
got a yeast infection on diaper rash that he
already had. We tried all the diaper rash
creams and nothing worked, A&D, bacitracin -
even prescribed diaper cream with
steroids in it - nothing helped it and it only
got worse to the point of bleeding. I went to
my grandparents house for Easter and my
grandmother saw his rash, told me to take the
diaper off, she went in the kitchen whipped up
and egg white and slathered in on his butt.
She told me to do that for a couple of days
until it was gone. The next time I changed his
diaper it looked a little better and within 24
hours it was just about cleared up. When we
went to his dr she was so glad that the
steroid cream worked and when I told her it
still had gotten worse and what ended up
clearing it up she was impressed and now she
tells other mothers what worked. My grandma is
from Italy and has a rememdy for everything -
wheter it is an herb, cream or whipped egg
whites - it works better then medicine
sometimes!!!! Laura 03/08/2000

My favorite diaper ointment is one I found
here on Babycenter. It's made by Little
Forest and contains tea tree oil. It cleared
up my son's diaper rash more quickly than any
other product I've tried (and I've tried
lots). And since I began to use it every
night, we haven't had another rash. Since
tea tree oil is anti-fungal, it can be great
for preventing yeast infections as well in
babies who are prone to those. Michele 03/08/2000

My son, Colin is 5 months and also loves his
Graco baby jumper! I sometimes think
he'd stay in it indefinitely if I let him!
It's a wonderful way for him to have some
control over his legs and his bouncing desires
(my arms were getting exhausted from holding
him while he bounced on my lap!). He loves to
stop bouncing and "stand" as well in it, and
now loves to practice standing with our help
for balance. I agree with Sherry that
everyone should have one! Krista 03/08/2000

I just wanted to say how much I enjoy the
comment board. It amuses me to no end how
much people have to say on the minutae of
childcare. But I don't mean that in a
negative way. I actually think it's
wonderful to see how much people care about
childrens' well-being and I enjoy the
supportive atmosphere that comes from the
sharing of information and experiences like
this.
By the way Laura, the eggwhite remedy has
been used in my family for 3 generations that
I know of. :) Lisa 03/08/2000

Whenever I read Boo's story it makes me laugh
because he's doing almost the same thing as

How about a page where the reader can go to
previous weeks of Bobby: a new life? I often
miss a weeks entry and would very much like
to read up on what i miss. I love reading
these pages!! jerry harmon 03/08/2000

Jerry:
Under each week's entry, you should see a
pull-down menu that says "current week".
When you click on the arrow, you'll see that
you can go to any previous entries and the
coinciding comment boards. Michele 03/09/2000

For my daughter's horrid diaper rash we used
everything, it was painful and bled. Desitin
didnt cause a problem but we found baby
cornstarch (not powder) worked GREAT,
especially with a little A & D. Balmex worked
too but A&D is cheaper and did the same job.
A&D is useful for more things than diaper rash
too - id much rather put a little A&D on her
face than smear some balmex on there when she
gets windburn or a rash. Nichole 03/09/2000

Terrific! I check every Monday morning to
see what's going on in your family. You have
a good writing style, and a humorous way of
presenting even the most mundane subjects
(like all the idiot drivers on the road). Kirsten 03/12/2000
