Connecting video to blogs
New discovery: The Camera Planet News Blog.
Says independent TV producer and documentarian Steve Rosenbaum, an old acquaintance, "It's worth thinking about 3g phones with cameras built in, both stills and video - as we connect that to blogs, there's a lot of interesting personal journalism around the corner." Absolutely. And it's already beginning to happen.
Watermarks as an alternative to DRM
I pointed Larry Lessig to my post yesterday about a presentation Wednesday on watermarking systems at Stanford. He responded with a post today on the difference between marks and locks, saying in part, "Iím a strong supporter of flawed (in the sense of defeatable) watermarking."
Once I burrow more deeply into this subject, I suspect I'll agree with Larry on the desirability of flawed watermarking. What I hear in industry circles, though -- about mandated watermarks backed by the force of law -- continues to concern me. So we'll see how this plays out in private industry. If watermarking catches on as an alternative to DRM (as Larry suggests) and not as a form of DRM (as the Hollywood studios would prefer), that would be great.
