| Carol lived in Southern California near her son and daughter and their families until she died in 2004.
In July 1985 Carol and John, still living in New Jersey, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Their children, Bob and Florence, had arranged the celebration when they made an earlier trip to Garfield, NJ, in 1984. The California contingent of the family flew out in July 1985 to join in the festivities, including Robert and Peggy Bielen and their children Robert, Janet and Brian; Florence and Edward Reid with daughters Kathleen Reid, Christine Reid Palmer, Christine's husband David Palmer and their daughter Kathleen Palmer (Caroline and John's great-granddaughter), nearly 6 months old.
